“Hello starling, little darling, mimicking inflections. Hello magpie, clever guy, admiring your reflection…”
Jeff Pittman is a folk singer-songwriter and storyteller whose style and delivery are borne of years spent entertaining in shed parties and community halls of his native Newfoundland. Coming from a long line of family poets and humorists, Pittman’s songs tell stories of time and place, ranging from pun-laden toe-tappers to quirky singalongs and heartfelt ballads.
“The old girl used to go to bed with Bas and then get up with Bill. When I’m gone she’ll have the radio, and the land up on the hill.”
Pittman’s debut full-length album, History and Mystery, was released in 2019, featuring 11 original tracks and one traditional song. The release of the album saw Pittman nominated for MusicNL’s Folk/Roots Artist of the Year, and shortlisted for the Telegram and MusicNL‘s Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year Award. The album was also named by the Newfoundland Herald as one of the Best Albums of 2019, and has been played on radio stations across Canada, including as part of CBC’s Deep Roots and Canadian Songwriter playlists.
“There’s no pills and no ointments, no doctor’s appointments, stopping Christmas with the Gout.”
Pittman’s previous releases include the holiday EP, Christmas with the Likes of Jeff Pittman, featuring the single, “Christmas with the Gout”, the holiday EP The Jackmans and Jeff Pittman - The Fondest Memories, and the EP Late Night Melodies by Jeff Pittman and David Scholten. He plans to release a new EP in 2020, recorded at the Banff Centre with Grammy-winning producer Howard Bilerman, and with contributions from folk music legends David Francey and Fats Kaplin.
